Lenexa student completes Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center program
Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center program for ScoutsHUTCHINSON, Kansas - Lenexa Clinton Underwood, children Debbie and Rich Underwood, a graduate of Space 101: Space Program Merits of the adventures of Kansas in space (KAOS) on July 1, 2011, Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center. Clinton will be the seventh year in the Middle Prairie Trail this fall.
The six-day camp astronaut introduction is for Scouts entering grades 6-8 and challenges young men to work hard, reach high and achieve more.Developed by Cosmosphere staff, the camps are nationally recognized to raise awareness and encourage Scouts to explore the universe.
Scouts earn five merit badges during their stay at the Cosmosphere, including space exploration, engineering, weather, aviation and astronomy badges. As part of their merit badge requirements, Scouts launch rockets model, visit Hutchinson Municipal Airport and the stars and planets with the view state of the art of telescope Cosmosphere.
Throughout the week, campers train in the simulator room to the challenges of living and working in space as the centrifuge, multi-axis trainer simulator stress and Mission Control. The week ends with a mission to the Cosmosphere Falcon III, the shuttle simulator as realistic outside of NASA, where they fly a mission to Earth in low orbit.
They also travel around the world-famous Cosmosphere Hall of Space Museum and watch a live presentation of the laboratory of Dr. Goddard.
The centrifuge is a rotating device that tests people's reactions to forces encountered during launch and re-entry.The multi-axis trainer turns riders 360 degrees in several areas while simulating machine-like maneuvers that might be encountered in space flight. The simulator incorporates the stress of external stimuli on a mission to replicate stressful situations encountered in space flight. The Falcon III simulates the launch, in orbit, satellite deployment, reentry and landing.
