Bladder Biology and Pathogenesis
Normally, people rarely consider the urinary bladder. But when disease or dysfunction occurs, bladder problems significantly impact quality of life. Our laboratory employs cell culture and animal models to dissect the mechanisms of both normal bladder function and disease processes. We focus on two main areas of research: the neuroinflammatory bladder syndrome interstitial cystitis (IC) and urinary tract infection (UTI) caused by uropathogenic E. coli bacteria.
